ACC Women’s Lacrosse: Syracuse Sweeps ACC Weekly Honors

No. 12/11 Orange upset No. 2 North Carolina 
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following Syracuse’s upset win at No. 2 North Carolina that snapped the Tar Heels’ 18-game win streak over ACC foes, Orange freshman attacker Emily Hawryschuk has been named the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman goalie Asa Goldstock is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Hawryschuk led the 12th-ranked Orange with four goals in its 13-11 win in Chapel Hill on Saturday. After the Tar Heels tied the score at 7-7 with 23:03 remaining, she scored twice during a 5-1 scoring run that give the Orange a three-goal lead en route to the win. The Victor, New York, native tallied her first goal early in the first half during a 4-0 Syracuse run and added her second of the game about 11 minutes later. 

Goldstock reached double figures in saves for the third time this season with 12 against North Carolina. The Niskayuna, New York, native was integral in Syracuse’s upset effort as after the Tar Heels tied the score at 7-7, Goldstock caused two turnovers and made three saves in the final 23:03 to help Syracuse to victory. For the game, the rookie netminder faced 30 shots and also picked up two ground balls.
