ACC Women’s Lacrosse: Players of the Week Named

Syracuse’s Treanor and North Carolina’s Ward recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse’s Kayla Treanor has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while North Carolina’s Megan Ward is this week’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Treanor became Syracuse’s all-time goals scored leader in the Orange’s win over Louisville with 251 career goals, and moved into 11th place on the NCAA Division I all-time goals scored list. The senior attacker helped Syracuse jump out to a 3-0 lead early in the first half with a goal and two assists. Her second goal of the day came after Louisville had scored back-to-back goals to cut Syracuse’s lead to one. She also recorded 14 draw controls against the national leader in draw control’s per game, Louisville’s Kaylin Morissette.

North Carolina goalie Ward went the distance in net on senior day for the Tar Heels in Saturday’s 16-8 win over 13th-ranked Duke. Ward played all 60 minutes making eight saves and collected one ground ball while earning her third consecutive victory.

The ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be played this weekend at Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium. Thursday’s first round games feature the top-seeded Tar Heels facing No. 8 seed Virginia Tech at Noon, while No. 4 seed Duke will meet No. 5 seed Virginia at 2:30 p.m. The evening games start with No. 2 seed Syracuse taking on No. 7 seed Boston College at 5 p.m. and No. 3 seed Notre Dame playing No. 6 seed Louisville at 7:30 p.m. The semifinals will be played at 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, with those winners meeting on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the ACC Championship and the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. All seven games of the tournament will be broadcast on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks and will be available on ESPN3.
