ACC Women’s Lacrosse: Notre Dame’s Fortunato and Louisville’s Read Collect Weekly Honors

Fortunato and Read each earn their first weekly honors of the season

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame junior attacker Cortney Fortunato has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Louisville sophomore goalie Brittany Read is the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Fortunato led the Irish with a career-high eight points on four goals and career-best four assists as Notre Dame rolled past three-time defending A-Sun champion Jacksonville, 18-5, on opening day. The Preseason All-ACC selection scored three goals in the first 14:06 of the game to help the Irish take command of the contest early. Her third goal with 15:54 left in the first half kicked off an 11-0 run for the Irish during which she scored twice and collected all four of her assists. The Northport, New York, native also led the team with a career-high four caused turnovers, and added two ground balls.

In her first start at goalie for the Cardinals, Read totaled a career-high 12 saves to help Louisville to a 14-6 win over Marquette. The Gibbsboro, New Jersey, native played all 60 minutes, and posted a team-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers in the victory.

ACC teams will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
