Tracy and Ward recognized for their efforts in win over No. 6/5 Louisville
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – It is a North Carolina sweep of Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse weekly honors as senior attacker Sammy Jo Tracy has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week and senior goalie Megan Ward is the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Tracy scored a hat trick in the Tar Heels’ win over No. 6/5 Louisville on Saturday. Tracy scored two of her three goals in the first half to help the Tar Heels go into halftime with a 9-4 advantage. She later added her third goal to make it 14-5 with 6:16 left to play. Tracy also added a game-high seven draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover which eventually led to North Carolina’s first goal of the game.
Ward played 58:55 of North Carolina’s dominant win over Louisville in relief of starter Caylee Waters, who was sick. She made a career-high 13 saves while allowing just five goals and gathering two ground balls in the Tar Heels’ eighth consecutive victory.
