Hendrick and McCool recognized for their efforts in wins over Virginia Tech and No. 5 Notre Dame
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – It is a North Carolina sweep of Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse weekly honors as junior attacker Molly Hendrick has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore midfielder Marie McCool is the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Hendrick led the Tar Heels to a pair of league wins last week, tallying career highs with six goals and seven points and adding three caused turnovers in a 15-6 win over Virginia Tech. She scored two of the Tar Heels’ first four goals against the Hokies and added two more goals late in the first half that helped give North Carolina a 10-3 lead at the break. Against fifth-ranked Notre Dame, the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, native scored four goals, and added two ground balls and a caused turnover in the 14-8 win. Hendrick had a hat trick in the first 14 minutes of play and then added one more in the second half.
McCool was all over the field this week in the Tar Heels’ two wins over Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. On Wednesday night against the Hokies, the Mooresetown, New Jersey, native, caused two turnovers, gathered three ground balls and a draw control while also scoring two goals and dishing out an assist. In the win over the Fighting Irish on Sunday McCool was even better, gathering six ground balls while also causing four turnovers and collecting two draw controls in the 14-8 decision.
