Mannelly and Arsenault recognized for their efforts in win over No. 3 Syracuse
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – It is a Boston College sweep of Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse weekly honors as senior Sarah Mannelly has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week and freshman Dempsey Arsenault is the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Senior midfielder Mannelly, Boston College’s leading scorer, netted a team-high six points on four goals and two assists, as the Eagles upset third-ranked Syracuse, 13-8, Saturday afternoon. Mannelly kicked off the Eagles’ scoring less than a minute into the game and added three second-half goals to help clinch the win. She also matched a season-high with three draw controls.
Freshman midfielder Arsenault had arguably her best defensive game of her career, helping the Eagles upset No. 3 Syracuse and holding the 10th best scoring offense, which was averaging nearly 14 goals a game, to a season low eight goals. Her role in defending Syracuse’s Kayla Treanor, who entered the game with the ninth most points in the NCAA this season, was critical as she held the senior attacker and two-time All-American and Tewaaraton finalist to only two points, the fewest she has had in a conference game since April 11 of last season.
