ACC Women’s Basketball: Player and Rookie of the Week Honorees Named

Hines-Allen earns second weekly honor; Watts collects her fourth

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville sophomore forward Myisha Hines-Allen has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while North Carolina freshman guard Stephanie Watts earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

Hines-Allen earned her second Player of the Week honor of the season after recording consecutive double-doubles in a three-win week in which she averaged 21.7 points on 61.4 percent shooting, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks.

The Montclair, New Jersey, native started the week with 25 points, 10 rebounds and matching a career-high with three blocks in a convincing 67-50 win over No. 19/20 USF. She had 15 of Louisville’s 36 points in the second half, helping the Cardinals earn their fourth win over a top-25 program of the season. She followed that up with 22 points and 11 rebounds against Virginia, with 19 of her points coming in the second half. Hines-Allen concluded the week with 18 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists at Boston College. She had 14 points in the second half, scoring the Cardinals’ first six points in the third quarter.

Watts earned her league-leading fourth ACC Rookie of the Week honor after she averaged 23.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 blocks in two games last week for the Tar Heels.

Watts exploded for a career-high 30 points and 13 rebounds on Sunday against NC State, while also filling out the box score with five steals, three blocks and two assists. The Wesley Chapel, North Carolina, native also had 16 points and six rebounds against Pitt.
