ACC Women’s Basketball: Player and Rookie of the Week Announced

Louisville’s Durr and Clemson’s Thornton collect honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville sophomore guard Asia Durr has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Clemson freshman post player Kobi Thornton earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel. 

Durr averaged a remarkable 23.0 points on 52.0 percent shooting in a 3-0 week, playing only 25.3 minutes per game. The sophomore connected on 13 3-pointers in the three contests, while also collecting five assists and three steals.

After a stellar 22-point performance against Middle Tennessee State, Durr poured in a career-high 34 points against Bowling Green. The Douglasville, Georgia, native connected on 12 of 18 field goals, including eight 3-pointers. Her eight 3-pointers are tied for the second most in a contest nationally. She added 13 points in the win over Lafayette and now is averaging 22.2 points through five games this season.

Thornton recorded her first career double-double just three games in to her Clemson career, posting 16 points and 11 rebounds in the team’s win over Georgia Southern on Nov. 16. The freshman was 7-for-11 from the field against the Eagles and also tallied three blocked shots in the contest. At Monmouth on Nov. 19, Thornton contributed a solid eight points and six rebounds, while shooting 4-for-6 from the floor. The product of Shellman, Georgia, leads the Clemson team in rebounding (8.0 per game) and blocked shots (6.0), and is third on the team in scoring (10.3 ppg), one of three Tigers averaging in double figures.
