Cable and Ogunbowale both averaged 18.5 points leading the Irish to a pair of wins last week
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Following their performances in wins against No. 18/17 DePaul and at TCU, Notre Dame graduate student guard Madison Cable has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while teammate freshman guard Arike Ogunbowale earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Cable averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in Notre Dame’s two wins last week. The Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, native chalked up her second double-double of the season with game highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 95-90 win over DePaul. In the victory, Cable tied her career high with five three-pointers (on eight attempts) and added a season-high two blocks.
Cable then collected 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and chipped in two steals and two assists in a Saturday matinee win (88-72) on the road at TCU. Cable also drew two charges in the contest, raising her career total to 43.
Ogunbowale posted career scoring highs in consecutive games last week, averaging 18.5 points per game with a .583 field-goal percentage.
Ogunbowale began the week by tying her then-career scoring high with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting in Wednesday night’s win over the Blue Demons. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native followed that performance up with a career-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, plus a career best-tying seven free throws in Saturday’s victory at TCU.
