ACC Women’s Basketball: NC State’s Wilson Named Player of the Week

Louisville’s Durr earns second Rookie of the Week honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State redshirt junior guard Dominique Wilson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Louisville freshman guard Asia Durr earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

Wilson earned her first ACC Player of the Week honor after a pair of 20-plus point performances to average 22.5 points in home wins over Virginia and North Carolina. The redshirt junior led all scorers in both games, scoring 24 points on 10-22 shooting in the win over Virginia and 21 points on 7-13 shooting in the 29-point win over North Carolina. Wilson also averaged 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game. The Georgia native entered last week as the No. 2 scorer in ACC games this season and has scored 166 points in the last seven games (23.7 per game).

Durr earned her second ACC Rookie of the Week honor after she averaged 15.3 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds, while hitting 54.5 percent of her shots in a 3-0 week that included a win over Syracuse, which was ranked in the coaches’ poll. She connected on 6-of-13 3-pointers and went 16-for-18 from the free throw line.

Durr provided Louisville with a spark off the bench against Syracuse, scoring eight of her 16 points in the first period. She also added four assists and was an efficient 3-for-5 from the field. The Douglasville, Georgia, native went 5-for-8 from the floor against Clemson, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers, and had a stellar five assists and zero turnovers. She capped the week with 18 points against Wake Forest, nine of them in the fourth quarter that helped secure the Cardinals’ 14th-consecutive victory.
