Moore and Durr lead the Cardinals to a pair of road wins
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Following their performances in wins at Virginia and NC State, Louisville sophomore forward Mariya Moore has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while teammate freshman guard Asia Durr earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Moore earned her second Player of the Week honor of the season after averaging 21.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in an undefeated week. The Hercules, California, native opened the week with a solid all-around effort against Virginia on Jan. 14, totaling 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists and three steals. She followed the performance with a career-high 31 points on 10-of-19 shooting in a come-from-behind victory against NC State. With Louisville trailing by 14 at the half, Moore stepped up and scored 24 of the Cardinals’ 56 points in the final two periods. She was 8-of-13 over the final 20 minutes and went 6-for-6 from the line. She scored the final four points – all from the free throw line – to tie and then win the game.
Durr scored in double figures in back-to-back games, including a season-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting at NC State. The Douglasville, Georgia, native began the week with 10 points, three steals and two rebounds in a road victory against Virginia. She followed that up with a 21-point performance highlighted by a perfect 5-of-5 mark from downtown. With the Cardinals trailing by 14 at the half, the freshman stepped in from the bench and contributed 13 points in the second half. Her second 3-pointer in the fourth period cut the deficit to two before she hit her third 3 of the quarter to bring Louisville within two again, setting up the four-consecutive free throws by Moore that tied the game and then gave the Cardinals the victory. Durr averaged 15.5 points, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 rebounds, while shooting better than 50 percent from the field in the 2-0 week. It is her first career ACC Rookie of the Week nod.
