GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame junior guard Lindsay Allen and Virginia senior guard Faith Randolph have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while Clemson freshman guard Danielle Edwards earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Notre Dame’s Allen flirted with a triple-double in the Fighting Irish’s final game before the Christmas holiday, collecting 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting, along with a career high-tying nine assists, a season-high seven rebounds and two steals in last Monday’s win on the road at Saint Joseph’s (Pa.). Allen outscored the host Hawks all by herself in the third quarter, tallying eight points during a period when Notre Dame dominated Saint Joseph’s, 26-7.
Virginia’s Randolph matched her career high with 26 points at No. 9/10 Ohio State. The senior from Derwood, Maryland, started a furious UVA third-quarter comeback, hitting three early 3-pointers as part of a 14-point quarter that turned a 14-point halftime deficit into a three-point game with 1:56 remaining in the third quarter. Randolph shot 50-percent from the field, which included a 66.7 clip from long range.
Clemson’s Edwards led the Tigers to a 67-49 victory over UNC Asheville with a team-best 20 points. The rookie guard helped the Tigers get out to a fast start, scoring 16 of her 20 points in the first half, the most points scored in a half by a Clemson player this season. Edwards was also perfect from behind the arc against the Bulldogs making all three of her 3-point attempts. In addition, the native of Perry Hall, Maryland, recorded three assists and no turnovers in 29 minutes of play, and also added three steals in the contest.
