ACC Welcomes Local Teachers of the Year at ACC Baseball Championship

Durham Public Schools Teacher of the Year finalists invited to championship game.

DURHAM, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference continued an initiative to recognize local Teachers of the Year by inviting them to ACC Championship events. The Durham Public Schools Teacher of the Year finalists and their guests were invited to attend the championship game of the ACC Baseball Championship.

“The value of an outstanding teacher is immeasurable,” ACC Commissioner John Swofford said. “The ACC is proud to welcome this impressive group to the tournament and thankful to have them in our community.”

The following teachers were invited:

Ursela Jones, who has been in public education for nine years and is currently teaching Automation and Robotics at Neal STEM Academy of Engineering and Design.

Lori Khan, an 11th and 12th grade science teacher at Middle College High School at Durham Technical Community College since 2013.

Marjorie Light, an English teacher at J.D. Clement Early College High School at North Carolina Central University who began her teaching career in 1998.

Jaclyn Turnwald, a ninth grade English and Creative Writing teacher at The School for Creative Studies. 

Christopher Watson, a social studies teacher at Brogden Middle School for the past 12 years. 

2015 ACC Baseball Championship: The 2015 ACC Baseball Championship will be played May 19-24 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina. The 10-team tournament will be capped off by the ACC Championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, which will be nationally televised on ESPN2.  To purchase tickets and for more information on the full week of ACC festivities visit
