Florida State’s Walch takes award for second consecutive week
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State junior outside hitter Nicole Walch and Miami freshman setter Haley Templeton have earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball honors, as Walch was named Player of the Week and Templeton was tabbed Freshman of the Week.
Walch earns her second consecutive and third overall Player of the Week honors after leading the Seminoles to a pair of conference wins at NC State and Clemson this weekend while registering 40 kills on a .318 hitting percentage, capturing her 11th and 12th double-doubles of the season. On Friday, Walch was solid leading the attack with 15 kills and 11 digs in the 3-1 victory over the Wolfpack. On Sunday, Walch had herself a career day, accounting for new career-high 25 kills and 18 digs while delivering five aces – including three during a 6-0 stretch in the second set.
Templeton, who entered the weekend ranked second in the ACC with 10.85 assists/set, posted an impressive 11.17 assists/set in matches against No. 9 North Carolina and NC State. The freshman dished out 32 assists in three sets against the Tar Heels and added 35 assists Sunday against the Wolfpack. Templeton was active at the net in Sunday’s match, recording three block assists while adding her 20th service ace of the season.
