Both lead teams to weekend conference victories
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech outside hitter Teegan Van Gunst was named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Virginia middle hitter Anna Walsh took Freshman of the Week honors.
Van Gunst earned her second Player of the Week honor after leading Georgia Tech to two ACC victories, including a come-from-behind win over Boston College. The junior tallied 18 kills on 30 swings for a career-best .567 hitting percentage against Clemson and put up 13 digs in the match. She then led the Yellow Jackets’ rally against the Eagles, tallying a team-best 22 kills and collecting her second double-double of the weekend with 12 digs.
Walsh earned her third Freshman of the Week honor this season and second in a row after averaging 2.89 kills per set and 0.89 blocks per set in Virginia’s two matches against Duke and Wake Forest. She led the Cavaliers with career highs of 18 kills and five blocks while compiling a .500 hitting percentage in the win over Duke, ending a 17-match losing streak to the Blue Devils. Walsh then recorded eight kills and three blocks against Wake Forest.
