ACC Volleyball: Uattara, Walch and Walsh Earn Weekly Honors
Two seniors, freshman lead teams on opening weekend
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse outside hitter Silvi Uattara, Florida State outside hitter Nicole Walch and Virginia middle hitter Anna Walsh have earned the first weekly Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball honors of the 2015 season.
Uattara and Walch were named ACC co-Players of the Week, and Walsh was tabbed Freshman of the Week.
Uattara, who was All-ACC Second Team last season, helped Syracuse to a 3-0 start by registering 45 kills and a .462 hitting percentage over the weekend. The Orange started the season with consecutive sweeps of Rhode Island and Hartford on Friday, before defeating UConn 3-1 on Saturday. Uattara posted 21 kills in the road victory over the Huskies, finishing the match with a .488 hitting percentage and adding 15 digs and three total blocks. She finished the weekend with 32 digs and 10 total blocks and was named MVP of the UConn Invitational.
Walch, an AVCA Second-Team All-American and All-ACC first team honoree in 2014, led Florida State with back-to-back 20-plus kill efforts and double-doubles in a win over Oklahoma and a loss to No. 24 Colorado. She was named the MVP of the Omni Hotels Colorado Volleyball Classic, finishing the weekend with 47 kills, 34 digs and nine total blocks.
Walsh tallied 21 kills and led Virginia with a .450 hitting percentage in the Cavaliers’ two matches over the weekend. She recorded 10 kills and four blocks in her collegiate debut to help UVa top Loyola Marymount 3-1. Walsh then led the team with 11 kills against No. 20 UCLA, finishing with no errors for a .647 hitting percentage. She finished the weekend with three digs and four total blocks.
