North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia all collect weekend sweeps
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina middle hitter Paige Neuenfeldt and Florida State outside hitter Nicole Walch were named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, while Virginia middle hitter Anna Walsh took Freshman of the Week honors.
Neuenfeldt led North Carolina to 3-0 sweeps over in-state foes Duke and Wake Forest. She finished the weekend with a .727 hitting percentage and did not make a hitting error in either match. Neuenfeldt led the Tar Heels with 16 kills, while her nine total blocks helped the team out-block its opponents 26.5 to 4.0 over two matches. She became the second Carolina player in program history to record 400 career block assists.
Walch earned her second Player of the Week honor this season after leading the Seminoles to a pair of 3-0 victories over Clemson and Georgia Tech. She finished the weekend with 27 kills and a .510 hitting percentage, logging just one attack error in each match. With her 13 kills against Clemson and 14 against Georgia Tech, Walch has recorded double-digit kills in 10 matches this season. She also finished the weekend with 14 digs and five block assists.
Walsh earned her third consecutive Freshman of the Week honor and fourth this season after finishing the weekend with a .490 hitting percentage and averaging 3.62 kills per set and 1.12 blocks per set. In the Cavaliers’ win over Pitt, Walsh recorded 14 kills and a career-high six blocks. She then tied a match-high 15 kills to lead UVA past Virginia Tech, finishing the match with eight of her kills in the final two sets of the four-set match.
