ACC Volleyball: Neuenfeldt and Long Earn Weekly Honors


Tar Heels junior leads team to victory over No. 3 Florida State

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina middle blocker Paige Neuenfeldt and Wake Forest freshman outside hitter Kylie Long have earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball honors, as Neuenfeldt was named Player of the Week and Long was tabbed Freshman of the Week.

Neuenfeldt earns her first Player of the Week award, helping lead the Tar Heels to a historic weekend. The Birmingham, Michigan, native poured in 10 blocks and five kills as North Carolina cruised to a 3-0 sweep of NC State on Thursday. On Saturday, Neuenfeldt added nine blocks and nine kills as the Tar Heels earned their highest-ranked victory in program history, defeating No. 3 Florida State 3-1. Neuenfeldt led North Carolina in hitting percentage (.615), blocks (9) and aces (3) against the Seminoles, including a five-point serving run to give the Tar Heels their first lead in the pivotal set three. 

Long had a strong weekend as the Demon Deacons picked up wins over Notre Dame and Louisville. The Plano, Texas, native recorded a double-double in a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame with 13 kills and 15 digs. Long recorded her first back-to-back double-digit kill performance of her career with 16 kills against Louisville while hitting .500 for the match. Long opened the match with 10 kills in the first set to help establish the pace early.
