Long & Scoles earn Co-Player of the Week honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) –North Carolina outside hitter Julia Scoles and Wake Forest outside hitter Kylie Long were named Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week. Pittsburgh middle blocker Layne Van Buskirk earned Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Long recorded a pair of double-doubles as the Demon Deacons went 1-1 over the weekend. In the win over Louisville, she tallied 22 kills and 10 digs, and recorded 23 kills, 11 digs and three blocks in the loss to Notre Dame. She leads the team in kills with 243, which is the second best in the ACC this season.
Scoles, who previously won Freshman of the Week honors twice this season, led the then-No.10 Tar Heels to a pair of ACC road wins. She registered a team-high 26 kills, 17 digs, four blocks and three aces while averaging a .353 hitting percentage. She recorded a double-double (10 kills, 13 digs) in a win over Georgia Tech and aided in the 3-1 win over Clemson with her 16 kills, four digs and three service aces.
Van Buskirk helped the Panthers move to a 4-0 conference record over the weekend, picking up wins over Virginia and Virginia Tech. She totaled six blocks and 23 kills on 35 attempts with three errors for a .571 hitting percentage. She tallied double-digit kills in both matches, hitting .500 against the Hokies and .647 against the Cavaliers. Van Buskirk leads the ACC in hitting percentage with a .419 average.
