GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina’s Taylor Leath was named the ACC Player of the Week and NC State’s Jessica Kemp was tabbed Freshman of the Week.
Leath, who was named Player of the Year earlier today by a vote of the 15 head coaches, earn the weekly honor for the third time this season.
The sophomore led the Tar Heels to their 13th conference title last Wednesday as North Carolina defeated Duke, 3-1. The outside hitter posted 17 kills, 17 digs and a career-high six blocks in the victory. She committed only one hitting error on 43 attempts for a .372 hitting percentage. Leath averaged 4.25 kills, 4.25 digs and 1.50 blocks per set.
Kemp had two of her best performances over the weekend as NC State wrapped up their season with wins over Wake Forest (3-0) and Duke (3-1). She tallied six kills on 10 attempts versus Wake Forest, and did not commit an attacking error. The middle blocker finished the match with a .600 attacking percentage. Against Duke, the South Carolina native smacked a career-best 12 kills on 23 attempts to tally a .435 hitting percentage in addition to a block. For the weekend, Kemp averaged 2.86 points per set, 2.58 kills per set and 0.57 blocks per set.
