ACC Volleyball: Doyle and Della Claim Weekly Honors
Tar Heels take home honor for sixth time this season
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina libero Sheila Doyle received ACC Volleyball Player of the Week honors while Wake Forest middle blocker Caitlyn Della received Freshman of the Week honors.
In the fight for first place, Doyle had her best defensive performance of the season helping the No. 8 Tar Heels trump Notre Dame, 3-2. The senior tallied 40 digs, marking the first UNC player to do so since 2005 and only the second in school history to do so. She followed that performance by leading the team in digs (13) in the win over Louisville. Doyle recorded 53 digs and four aces at the conclusion of play this past weekend.
Della and the Demon Deacons split a pair of ACC match-ups this weekend. In a 3-2 loss to Duke, Della recorded 13 kills, two solo blocks and five total blocks. In the five-set match against Virginia, the freshman tallied a career-high 15 kills and recorded only one error for a .560 attack percentage. She finished the week with only three errors for a .481 hitting percentage, eight total blocks and 28 kills.
