ACC Volleyball: Bell, Curry and Porter Take Weekly Honors

Pitt, North Carolina and NC State earn weekend wins

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt outside hitter Mariah Bell and North Carolina setter Abigail Curry were named Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, while NC State setter Becky Porter earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors.

Bell led the Panthers to an undefeated weekend with a pair of 3-0 victories over Florida State and Miami. The sophomore put up 16 kills and a .344 hitting percentage in the upset win over the Seminoles, while adding another double-digit kill performance with 11 against Miami to finish the weekend with 27 kills. Bell averaged 4.50 kills per set overall.

Curry helped North Carolina to two 3-1 weekend victories over Louisville and Notre Dame, playing just her second and third career matches as a six-rotation setter.  The junior posted a double-double in both weekend matches for the Tar Heels, averaging 13.88 assists and 3.50 digs per set over the pair of wins. Curry set career highs of 38 assists and 16 digs against Louisville and then set a new career high in assists with 55 against Notre Dame.

Porter provided a spark to the Wolfpack offense in NC State’s come-from-behind victory over Notre Dame. She posted a match-high 42 assists in the 3-2 win, along with six digs and two blocks. Porter then handed out 31 assists and recorded nine digs against Louisville. She averaged 10.43 assists per set and 2.14 digs per set for the weekend.
