ACC Tennis: Schnur and Zhang Earn Weekly Honors

Pair notched five wins over ranked singles and doubles opponents

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina’s Brayden Schnur and Miami’s Wendy Zhang have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.

Schnur earned Male Player of the Week following his four victories last week, all against top 50 opponents. The junior from Pickering, Ontario, defeated No. 8 Ryan Shane of Virginia, and Wake Forest’s 16th-ranked Skander Mansouri in singles play. In doubles, Schnur paired with teammate Jack Murrary to take down No. 8 duo of Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Mac Styslinger from Virginia, and the 48th-ranked pair of Petros Chrysochoes and Jon Ho from Wake Forest. North Carolina’s win over Virginia was the first ACC regular season loss for the Cavaliers since 2006.

The Female Player of the Week, Zhang guided Miami to a road win over No. 29 Clemson. A native of Richmond, B.C., in Canada, the sophomore took down Clemson’s Joana Eidukonyte, the 20th-ranked singles player in the nation. Zhang also teamed up with fellow Hurricane Stephanie Wagner to top Clemson’s pair of Ayan Broomfield and Fernanda Navarro.
