GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – As men’s and women’s tennis begin their fall schedules this weekend, Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association have announced their 2016 Collegiate Tennis Men’s and Women’s Division I Preseason Rankings
The Atlantic Coast Conference combined between the men’s and women’s for a total of seven individuals ranked in the top 10 for singles, five in doubles and eight in top newcomer.
The ACC had two players in the top five of the female singles rankings: reigning ACC player of the Year North Carolina’s Hayley Carter (1) and Miami’s Sinead Lohan (5). Carter also found herself in the top 15 of the doubles rankings with partner Jessie Aney (T14) along with the No.12 duo of Gabriela Knutson and Valeria Salazar from Syracuse. The ACC leads all other conferences in the Newcomer/Freshmen rankings with four student athletes: North Carolina’s Sara Daavettila (1), Duke’s Meible Chi (6), Virginia’s Rosie Johanson (8) and Clemson’s Marie Leduc (T10).
The men had a strong showing in the rankings, placing five in the top 10: Virginia’s Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (4), 2016 Player of the Year Georgia Tech’s Christopker Eubanks (5), Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri (7) and Arthur Rinderknech (8) and North Carolina’s Ronnie Schneider (10). Mansouri, along with partner Christian Seraphim, found himself in the top five of the men’s doubles rankings. Leading the Newcomer rankings was Carl Soderlund of Virginia, followed by Lucas Poullain of Florida State (7), Simon Soendergaard of North Carolina (8) and Robert Levine of Duke (9).
These preseason rankings will be the only set of rankings released during the fall 2016 season. The Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings set to return the first week of January 2017 as teams begin their spring campaigns.
