Wake Forest’s Noah Rubin and Clemson’s Beatrice Gumulya earn honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest’s Noah Rubin and Clemson’s Beatrice Gumulya have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
For the third consecutive week, Rubin earns weekly honors after breezing to a 6-1, 6-2 win this weekend over the No. 9 player in the nation, Quentin Monaghan of Notre Dame. Rubin helped clinch the doubles point against Boston College with a 8-2 win at No. 3 with Jon Ho. The freshman is now 16-3 overall this year and 9-1 in his last 10 matches. Rubin holds an 11-3 mark against ranked opponents.
Gumulya, ranked No. 59, won her singles and doubles match in dominant fashion over the weekend to pace the Tigers to a 5-0 win over No. 33 Notre Dame on Senior Day in Clemson. With her singles win over Notre Dame’s Monica Robinson, the senior has now won eight consecutive singles matches, the longest current winning streak on the Clemson team, and continues to rise in the singles poll. In her first time playing with teammate Tristen Dewar this season, the duo defeated Closs/Fennelly handily at No. 3, for Gumulya to move to 27-5 on the season in doubles matches.
