Wake Forest’s Noah Rubin and North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb earn honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest’s Noah Rubin and North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
Rubin went 4-0 across singles and doubles against Miami and No. 16 North Carolina this weekend. The freshman breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 87 Piotr Lomacki at No. 1 against Miami to clinch the match. He also earned a 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-2 win over No. 15 Brayden Schnur at No. 1 vs. North Carolina to clinch the victory against the Tar Heels. Against Schnur, he broke the Tar Heel each of his first two service games of the third set to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Rubin went on to clinch the crucial doubles point with Jon Ho in the tiebreaker, 8-7(5), a win that turned out to be the difference in the match.
Loeb was in dominant form while helping No. 2 North Carolina top No. 12 Virginia by a 4-3 score last Friday, securing the Tar Heels at least a share of the ACC regular season championship with two matches remaining. Loeb defeated second ranked Julia Elbaba 6-3, 6-1 in a battle of two of the top tennis players in the country. She also teamed up with Caroline Price to clinch the doubles point with an 8-4 win over Elbaba and Cassie Mercer. Loeb is a perfect 12-0 in ACC singles play and 22-3 overall, and 20-2 overall and 9-1 in the league playing with Price in doubles this season.
