Virginia’s Ryan Shane and Virginia Tech’s Francesca Fusinato earn honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia’s Ryan Shane and Virginia Tech’s Francesca Fusinato have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
Shane led Virginia to a pair of top-15 wins, downing No. 14 North Carolina and No. 4 Duke by 6-1 scores to increase Virginia’s ACC win streak to 131 matches. The junior from Falls Church, Virginia, posted straight-set wins over two top-50 singles players, including a win over Duke’s Jason Tahir that clinched the victory. Shane also teamed with Luca Corinteli for two top-30 doubles wins at No. 1 as the duo has now won nine straight matches.
Fusinato clinched the Hokies’ conference upset over No. 16 Miami and earned the first win of her career over a top-10 opponent in singles play with her three-set victory over sixth ranked Stephanie Wagner. Virginia Tech trailed 3-1 early in the match against the Hurricanes but came back to clinch the victory with Fusinato’s decision. The sophomore from Feltre, Belluno, Italy, also added a singles and doubles victory in the Hokies 6-1 triumph over VCU.
