ACC Tennis Players of the Week Announced

Duke’s Nicolas Alvarez and Clemson’s Jessy Rompies earn honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke’s Nicolas Alvarez and Clemson’s Jessy Rompies have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.

Alvarez played a key role in Duke going 2-1 at the ITA Team Indoor Championship by winning two singles matches against top-20 opponents (No. 10 Julian Lenz of Baylor and No. 18 Cameron Norrie of TCU) and earning two doubles victories versus top-60 foes while teamed with Raphael Hemmeler. The Blue Devils played a trio of top-20 teams while in Chicago and downed No. 17 TCU and No. 19 Ole Miss.

Rompies, ranked 75th in the latest ITA rankings, won the first singles match giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead on the road against No. 6 Baylor, in a match the team ultimately dropped 4-3. With the win, she improved to 13-3 overall in singles, and 6-1 in dual matches. In doubles, Rompies and partner Beatrice Gumulya, who are ranked No. 1 in the country, defeated No. 27 Burgic/Shankle of Baylor 6-3. The pair remained undefeated in dual double matches, improving to 6-0 and extending their winning streak to nine, while improving to 18-1 overall in 2014-15.
