ACC Players of the Week Presented by Havoline

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke’s Nicolas Alvarez and Clemson’s Jessy Rompies have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.

Alvarez, ranked No. 18 in the latest ITA poll, helped Duke to a 3-0 week and a berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships with a trio of victories, all against top-25 opponents. Alvarez recorded the winning point in both of the Blue Devils’ ITA Kick-Off Weekend matches and put Duke ahead for good in the first contest of the week, at No. 18 Kentucky. The Lima, Peru, native leads Duke with a 20-3 overall singles record and is just 10 victories shy of entering the program’s top-10 chart for victories by a freshman.

Rompies, unranked in singles, won both of her singles matches as Clemson hosted the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Her win over No. 105 Andjela Djokovic clinched the match for the Tigers, guaranteeing Clemson a berth in the ITA National Team Indoors. Rompies and her doubles partner, Beatrice Gumulya, ranked No. 2 nationally, also won both of their doubles matches on the weekend to move to 14-1 on the season.
