Trio lead respective teams to undefeated weeks
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame’s Quentin Monaghan, Miami’s Stephanie Wagner and Wake Forest’s Anna Ulyashchenko have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
Monaghan was named Male Player of the Week after earning wins over two top-30 opponents as his Fighting Irish went 2-0 for the week, defeating 69th-ranked Duke and Miami. The senior from Chatham, New Jersey took down Duke’s No. 20 Nicolas Alvarez and the 28th-ranked Piotr Lomacki of Miami, both in straight sets.
As Co-Female Player of the Week, Wagner guided Miami to an undefeated week, including wins over three top-40 teams. The senior went 5-2 in her singles and doubles matches, leaving one unfinished, including singles victories over No. 3 Francesca Di Lorenzo of Ohio State, 58th-ranked Francesca Fusinato of Virginia Tech and No. 123 Audrey Ann Blakely of Pittsburgh. Wagner, a native of Amberg, Germany, partnered with teammate Wendy Zhang to defeat the 59th-ranked duo of Rima Asatrian and Alexandra Solovyev of Columbia, as Miami defeated No. 2 Ohio State, No. 32 Virginia Tech, No. 38 Columbia and Pittsburgh. The honor is Wagner’s third of the month.
Ulyashchenko earned Co-Female Player of the Week following her role in Wake Forest’s three wins, over No. 10 Virginia, No. 38 Notre Dame and East Carolina. The freshman from Brooklyn, New York posted a 5-1 record in singles and doubles, including a victory over No. 64 Skylar Morton of Virginia to clinch the match for the Demon Deacons. Ulyashchenko partnered with teammate Kimmy Guerin in doubles to take down the No. 25 pair of Danielle Collins and Meghan Kelley of Virginia.
