Trio posts team, individual wins over the weekend
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri, Miami’s Stephanie Wagner and Duke’s Chalena Scholl have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
Mansouri was named Male Player of the Week for the second time this season after guiding Wake Forest to a 3-1 weekend, including a win over No. 6 Texas Tech. The sophomore went 3-0 in singles with a key win at No. 1 over 18th-ranked Felipe Soares of Texas Tech. Mansouri also went 2-0 in doubles play, with wins over the No. 2 and No. 44 teams in the country.
Wagner earned Co-Female Player of the Week after beating two top-30 players on the road against two top-10 teams. The senior, who is ranked eighth nationally in singles play, handed No. 2 Hayley Carter of North Carolina her first loss of the spring. She then topped No. 26 Beatrice Capra of Duke in straight sets.
Scholl also earned Co-Female Player of the Week honors after guiding the Blue Devils to a 2-0 record to open conference play. The junior kickstarted Duke’s 6-1 victory over No. 43 Florida State with wins in No. 3 doubles and singles before doing the same against No. 13 Miami. Scholl did not drop a set in singles play, taking down each of her opponents 6-2, 6-0.
