ACC Tennis: Lock, Carter and Dair Take Weekly Honors

Louisville, North Carolina and Boston College all earn one award

GREENSBORO, N.C. ( – Louisville’s Courtney Lock, North Carolina’s Hayley Carter and Boston College’s Asiya Dair have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.

Lock earned Male Player of the Week honors after helping the Cardinals to a 3-1 record in their opening weekend. The sophomore went 3-0 in singles with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Troy’s Pablo Moreno, a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win over Dayton’s Simon Jayaram and a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Morehead State’s Ognjen Sunjevaric, all in the No. 5 spot. Lock also picked up doubles wins in the Dayton, Northwestern and Morehead State matches.

Carter earned Co-Female Player of the Week honors after winning both the singles and doubles titles at the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championship in Las Vegas. The junior and sixth-ranked singles player in the country did not drop a set on her way to winning the singles crown, while her win over No. 49 Giuliana Olmos of Southern California was her 100th career singles victory. Carter and doubles partner Whitney Kay, the No. 2 team nationally, took the doubles title with a 6-3 win over fourth-ranked Olmos and Gabby Smith.

Dair was named Co-Female Player of the Week for her performance against No. 7 Virginia. The sophomore won her singles match 6-4, 6-1, defeating three-time All-American and eighth-ranked Julia Elbaba in the No. 2 spot. She also helped the Eagles claim the doubles point, partnering with Jenny Ren to win 9-7 in the No. 2 position and give Boston College a 2-1 advantage.
