Trio combined for 11 ranked wins
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Martina Frantova, Georgia Tech’s Paige Hourigan and Virginia’s Ryan Shane have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
Frantova earned Co-Female Player of the Week following NC State’s wins over No. 27 Wake Forest and 64th-ranked Boston College. A junior from Bratislava, Slovakia, Frantova won all of her singles matches, with victories over Duke’s No. 41 Kaitlyn McCarthy, No. 59 Kimmy Guerin of Wake Forest and 70th-ranked Asiya Dair of Boston College. In doubles play, Frantova paired with teammate Tayla Stenta to top the No. 53 pair of Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko from Wake Forest.
Hourigan was named Co-Female Player of the Week after her role in Georgia Tech’s win over No. 8 Duke. The sophomore from Turakina, New Zealand won all of her matches on the week. In singles, Hourigan defeated No. 39 Whitney Kay of North Carolina, and Duke’s McCarthy. Hourigan partnered with teammate Kendal Woodard in doubles to earn wins over the top-ranked doubles pair of Kay and Hayley Carter of North Carolina, as well as Duke’s tandem of McCarthy and Samantha Harris.
The Male Player of the Week, Shane helped Virginia earn wins over No. 7 Wake Forest and Miami. A senior from Falls Church, Virginia, Shane earned two singles and two doubles victories over ranked opponents. In singles, Shane took down Wake Forest’s No. 14 Skander Mansouri, and No. 37 Piotr Lomacki of Miami. Luca Corinteli was Shane’s partner in doubles, as they earned wins over the No. 14 pair of Mansouri and Christian Seraphim from Wake Forest and the No. 72 team of Max Andrews and Bernard Tefel of Miami.
