GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson’s Ayan Broomfield and Florida State’s Benjamin Lock have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
Broomfield was named Female Player of the Week following her part in Clemson’s victories over No. 30 Syracuse and No. 66 Florida State. The freshman won all of her matches, defeating Florida State’s No. 72 Daneika Borthwick, in addition to Valeria Salazar of Syracuse. In doubles, Broomfield paired with Fernanda Navarro, earning wins over the 26th-ranked pair of Gabriela Knutson and Valeria Salazar from Syracuse, and the Florida State duo of Borthwick and Yukako Noi.
The Male Player of the Week, Lock played a key role for the Seminoles as they knocked off No. 1 North Carolina and No. 66 Duke. The win over UNC was the first win over a No. 1 team in school history. The senior went undefeated in singles and doubles play, racking up two wins in each. Lock took down UNC’s Brayden Schnur, ranked No. 38, and Duke’s 20th-ranked Nicolas Alvarez in singles play, and teamed up with partner Marco Nunez in doubles to top the No. 3 pair of Brett Clark and Robert Kelly of UNC, as well as Duke’s duo of Alvarez and Vincent Lin.
