ACC Swimming: NC State, Louisville Finish in Top 8 of 800 Free at NCAAs

ATLANTA – NC State and Louisville earned points on Wednesday night as competition got underway at the 2016 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held Wednesday through Saturday at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech.

The Wolfpack set two ACC records en route to a runner-up finish in the 800 freestyle, the night’s only event. The team of Simonas Bilis, Ryan Held, Justin Ress, and Soeren Dahl combined to finish in 6:09.58, under the previous NCAA record and topping the previous ACC best by almost three seconds. The leadoff leg of 1:32.02 for Bilis also set a league mark in the 200 freestyle, breaking the previous record of 1:32.45 set in 2010 by Virginia’s Scot Robison.

The performance marked the second-straight runner-up finish for NC State in the event.

Trevor Carroll, Matthias Lindenbauer, Grigory Tarasevich, and Zach Harting finished in 6:15.86 for seventh place and 24 points for the Cardinals.
