ACC Swimming and Diving: Four Schools take Weekly Honors

Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and NC State each earn one award

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State swimmer Jon Burkett, Duke swimmer Kathryn Eckhart, North Carolina swimmer Rachel Canty and Clemson diver Sarah Blank have been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week.

Burkett earned Male Swimmer of the Week honors after posting two NCAA B-cut times at the Carolina College Invite. The freshman placed first in the 100 fly with a time of 46.63, the third-fastest mark in school history. He also placed first in the 100 back with a 47.48, which was the fourth-fastest time in program history. Both times were career-best efforts.

Eckhart was named Co-Female Swimmer of the Week after claiming wins in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. The senior’s time of 50.14 in the 100 free was the fifth-fastest time in school history, while her times in the 100 back and 50 free were both season-bests.

Canty earned Co-Female Swimmer of the Week honors after winning three individual championships at the Carolina College Invite, posting career-best times in all three events. The senior finished with NCAA B-cut times in the 200 individual medley and the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and was also named National Swimmer of the Week for her efforts.

Blank was named Female Diver of the Week for her performance at the Dukes Diving Invite. The freshman became the first diver in Clemson women’s diving program history to win a springboard event at an invitational meet, posting an NCAA zone-qualifying score of 300.05 in the 3-meter event. Her score was also a personal best and the first zone-qualifying score of her career.
