15 women’s lacrosse players recognized
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Fifteen ACC women’s lacrosse student-athletes garnered All-America accolades for the 2016 season, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWL CA).
Seven from the ACC were named to the 16-member All-America First Team, the most of any conference in the nation. North Carolina and Notre Dame each have two on the first team, while Duke, Louisville and Syracuse have one.
Named to the IWLCA All-America First Team include: Duke’s Kelsey Duryea, Louisville’s Kaylin Morissette, Syracuse’s Kayla Treanor, North Carolina’s Molly Hendrick and Marie McCool, and Notre Dame’s Cortney Forunato and Barbara Sullivan.
Earning second team honors are: Boston College’s Sarah Mannelly, Duke’s Maddie Crutchfield, North Carolina’s Mallory Frysinger, Aly Messinger and Sammy Jo Tracy, and Syracuse’s Halle Majorana.
Kyra Harney (Duke) and Casey Pearsall (Notre Dame) each collected third team honors.
The ACC also had 35 named to the IWLCA All-Region Teams, including 19 named to first teams.
Ten of the ACC’s 15 All-Americans will be in action Saturday, May 21 in NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship Quarterfinal games. North Carolina and Notre Dame will face each other at Noon in Chapel Hill, while Syracuse will host USC at 3 p.m. The winners advance to the national semifinals on Friday, May 27 at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia.
