ACC Softball: Ross, Lynch and Hensley Earn Weekly Awards Presented by Havoline

NC State outfielder, North Carolina and Louisville pitchers take first honors of season

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State outfielder Tyler Ross, North Carolina pitcher Kendra Lynch and Louisville pitcher Megan Hensley have been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Performers of the Week.

Ross earned ACC Player of the Week honors, while Lynch and Hensley were named ACC Co-Pitchers of the Week.

Ross led the Wolfpack to three wins on opening weekend, posting a 1.067 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. The junior recorded at least one hit in all five games, hitting three home runs and driving in eight runs. She also recorded four stolen bases in four attempts, swiping a pair of bases in NC State’s 7-5 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday. Ross saw action primarily in left field, but also made a start in center field to record six putouts with no errors.

Lynch helped North Carolina to two wins over the weekend, hurling two complete-game shutouts against North Dakota State and Arkansas. The junior tossed a one-hit shutout against the Bison while going 2-for-3 in the cleanup spot and striking out a career-high seven batters in the winning effort. Lynch was also only credited with a run in one of her four appearances over the weekend and struck out 17 batters in 22 innings.

Hensley posted a 3-0 record on the week, earning a win in each of her appearances. The freshman posted a 0.82 ERA and held opponents to a .136 batting average with six strikeouts in 17 innings of work. Hensley tossed a complete game in the Cardinals’ 7-2 win over Iowa, allowing two earned runs on five hits and striking out three. She closed the weekend with 5.0 innings of relief against Sam Houston State, allowing one hit and retiring 15 of the 18 batters she faced.
