Florida State pair leads ‘Noles to undefeated week, Pitt freshman pitches perfect game

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State first baseman Alex Powers and pitcher Jessica Burroughs, along with Pitt pitcher Sarah Dawson, have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Performers of the Week.

Powers earned Player of the Week honors, while Burroughs and Dawson were named Co-Pitchers of the Week.

Powers was dominant at the plate for the Seminoles in six run-rule victories. The redshirt junior batted .647 with three doubles, three homes runs, seven runs scored and 11 RBIs, hitting at least one RBI in all six games. Powers finished the week with a .700 on-base percentage and a 1.353 slugging percentage.

Burroughs posted a 4-0 record and a 0.00 ERA as Florida State won the Unconquered Invitational. The redshirt junior tossed the second no-hitter of her career against Bradley and allowed just three hits in 16.0 shutout innings. Burroughs faced eight over the minimum in four games – 56 batters over 48 total outs.

Dawson made history for the Panthers on Saturday, tossing the program’s first perfect game in a 13-0, five inning win over Providence. The freshman retired 15-straight batters with the help of her teammates’ backup in the field. Dawson finished the weekend with three appearances and two wins, as she struck out five batters and gave up one walk in 10.1 innings pitched.
