NC State’s Ross and Louisville’s McCombs receive recognition in final honor of season
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State outfielder Tyler Ross has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Louisville’s Shelby McCombs earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Ross had a monstrous week at the plate for the Wolfpack, recording a batting average of .545. She homered at least once in all three games to raise her season total to 13 home runs, which ties as the team lead. Ross also led the team in RBI during the week with eight in just three games. She also scored six runs and collected six hits in the three-game weekend.
McCombs picked up both wins in Louisville’s series against Pitt. The freshman allowed only one run in 12.0 innings of work and tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout in the 12-0 victory over the Panthers to even the series in game two. In the deciding game, McCombs entered to pitch in relief in the third inning and after surrendering one run, she went on to hold Pitt scoreless and struck out four in 5.0 innings. The freshman improved to 10-5 on the season.
