Pitt’s McKayla Taylor and Louisville’s Maryssa Becker receive recognition
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt shortstop McKayla Taylor has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Louisville’s Maryssa Becker earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.
The University of Pittsburgh softball program earned its 400th win this weekend in a series sweep over Syracuse. Leading the way this weekend was Taylor, who finished the series with eight hits in 11 at-bats, 17 RBI, four home runs, seven runs, two doubles and 22 total bases. The freshman hit .727 in the series. On day one of the double header, Taylor had a career day, posting a combined five hits in seven at-bats with five runs scored, two home runs and 13 RBI. She continued to impress on Sunday, racking up an additional three hits, two runs, four RBI and two home runs. With her two home runs in game three, the California native is now tied for third all-time in Pitt single-season home runs with 12. Taylor's 17 RBI gives her 46 on the season, now placing her second overall in the record book in single-season RBI.
Becker did not allow a run and posted two complete game shutouts on the week – including one against No. 8/10 Florida State. The sophomore RHP registered a career-high 10 Ks in a 5-0 win at DePaul Wednesday. In that game, she helped her cause with a home run for her team-best sixth of the season. Becker went on to post her second straight complete game shutout in the Cards’ 1-0 win over ACC leader No. 8/10 Florida State on Saturday. Becker fanned two and held the Seminoles to four hits. On the week, Becker scattered eight hits in 14.0 innings of work. She now leads the team with a 10-4 record, a 2.49 ERA and 99 Ks.
