ACC Softball Players of the Week Announced

Notre Dame’s Rochford, Florida State’s King recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) -- Notre Dame infielder Melissa Rochford has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Florida State’s Meghan King earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.

Rochford keyed the Fighting Irish’s 5-0 week that included a three-game conference series sweep at Virginia. Rochford hit .444 for the week while driving in 10 runs and scoring six times. Three of her hits went for extra bases in the Virginia series – a double and a home run in Saturday’s 7-3 win, followed by another two-base hit on Sunday. The Irvine, California, freshman posted a .524 on-base percentage while slugging at a .722 clip in the five games. Rochford also made a big defensive contribution from her third base position with a team-high 14 assists for the week.

King tossed the first perfect game at Florida State since 2004 in an 8-0 win over Tulsa on Saturday. The redshirt freshman allowed only one ball to leave the infield on a flyout to centerfield in the sixth inning. The Parkland, Florida, native was also efficient in the circle as she used 63 pitches to record 18 outs against the Golden Hurricane and faced only one three-ball count in the entire game. For the week, King posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, giving up two hits in 11.0 innings with six strikeouts. She has retired 25 of the last 26 batters faced and now is 9-1 on the season with a 1.52 ERA.
