Pitt’s Jenna Modic and Florida State’s Lacey Waldrop receive recognition
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt infielder Jenna Modic has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Florida State’s Lacey Waldrop earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Modic contributed in her first ever conference games as a Panther this weekend against Virginia. After heading to Florence, South Carolina, due to inclement weather, Modic put up impressive numbers. The Youngstown, Ohio, native hit .636 after going 7-for-11. The junior knocked in eight runs and scored three more as the Panthers went 2-1 in the series. She had an on-base percentage of .733 and a slugging percentage of .636. On the season, Modic is hitting .339 and leads the time in runs batted in with 21.
Waldrop helped get the Seminoles off to a great start in ACC play with a sweep over Boston College. In two starts against the Eagles, the senior from Chester, Virginia, gave up a total of four hits, one walk and one unearned run to go with 15 strikeouts. On Feb. 28, Waldrop started the game and retired 15 of the 16 batters she faced, allowing just one base hit in the fourth inning. She closed out the series with a complete-game victory on Sunday, striking out nine batters over 7.0 innings and giving up just one walk and three hits.
