Pair leads teams to weekend wins in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina shortstop Kristen Brown has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Syracuse pitcher AnnaMarie Gatti earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Brown led the Tar Heels by batting .500 with a 1.250 slugging percentage and .667 on base percentage in their five games. The senior totaled six hits, three home runs, eight RBIs and two stolen bases in Carolina’s four games in the ACC/Big Ten Softball Challenge. She hit a sixth-inning home run in the opening game of the Challenge to help UNC come back to win its home opener over Northwestern, and hit two home runs for five RBIs against Illinois in the final game of the weekend.
Gatti led the Orange to two wins over Ohio State, holding the Buckeyes scoreless in her eight innings of play and allowing just three hits. The sophomore pitched a complete shutout against the Buckeyes on Saturday, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters. She then helped Syracuse complete the sweep on Sunday with a 3-2 victory.
