ACC Men’s Lacrosse: Notre Dame Sweeps Players of the Week Honors

Wynne and Landis honored for efforts in win over No. 7 Virginia

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame’s Mikey Wynne and Matt Landis have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse  Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, following the Fighting Irish’s 11-9 win over No. 7 Virginia.

Wynne, a freshman attackman from Skyesville, Maryland, tallied five goals in Notre Dame’s ACC-opening victory at Virginia. He scored three during the Irish’s 7-0 run to start the game, while his fourth tally of the first half gave Notre Dame an 8-1 lead. His fifth and final goal of the game put ND up 11-6 in the fourth quarter. Wynne leads the Fighting Irish with 19 goals this season and has scored three or more goals in five games this season.

Landis and the Notre Dame defense kept Virginia off the scoreboard for the opening 22:26 of Saturday’s ACC win, while allowing the Irish to storm off to a 7-0 advantage. The junior defenseman helped Notre Dame to hold Virginia to a season-low nine goals in the win.

League play continues on Sunday, March 22, with No. 1 Syracuse hosting No. 4 Duke at 12:30 p.m. on ESPNU. The ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship will be played at PPL Park in Philadelphia April 24 and 26, with the top four finishers from the regular season competing in the tournament. The fifth-place team that does not qualify for the Championship will play Penn on Saturday, April 25 at PPL Park. Single game and all-session tickets are on sale now. Click here to purchase tickets.
