GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s Diego Campos has been named the ACC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Clemson’s Ximo Miralles, North Carolina’s James Pyle, and Virginia’s Jeff Caldwell were tabbed as Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
Campos scored the game’s only goal as the Tigers defeated No. 11 Wake Forest, 1-0, on Friday night. In the highly-ranked matchup between division opponents, the junior forward from San Jose, Costa Rica, found the back of the net early in the second half for his fifth goal of the year. Wake Forest came into the match leading the league in goals against average and shutouts, and had only given up one goal in its previous eight games.
The goaltending trio of Miralles, Pyle, and Caldwell all posted shutouts against ranked conference opponents over the weekend. Miralles, a sophomore from Vinaros, Spain, made four saves in the win over No. 11 Wake Forest and also picked up an overtime shutout victory over USF in midweek action. Pyle, a redshirt sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina, made five saves and kept No. 3 Syracuse off the scoreboard in 110 minutes of action. Caldwell, a junior from Todd, North Carolina, made five saves and played all 110 minutes in goal as the Cavaliers tied with rival and 18th-ranked Virginia Tech. Caldwell also posted a shutout over Cornell earlier in the week.
