ACC Men’s Lacrosse: Players of the Week Named

Notre Dame’s Perkovic and Sexton, and North Carolina’s Balkam honored

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame’s Sergio Perkovic has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate John Sexton and North Carolina’s Brian Balkam are this week’s co-Defensive Players of the Week.

Fighting Irish midfielder Perkovic recorded a hat trick in Notre Dame’s 8-6 come-from-behind victory over Duke on Sunday. Perkovic scored the game-tying goal with 7:22 left in the fourth quarter and then the go-ahead goal with just under five minutes to play. He also put a game-high seven shots on frame in the victory.

Notre Dame defensive midfielder Sexton was part of a collective defensive effort that helped hold Duke to six goals and limited the Blue Devils’ starting midfield unit to a combined two goals and two assists. The sophomore also played a major role in holding Duke midfielder Myles Jones to just one assist in the victory over the Blue Devils. Sexton collected three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Tar Heel goalie Balkam made a career-high 14 saves and allowed just seven goals as North Carolina defeated Virginia, 16-8, Sunday. Seven of Balkam’s saves came in the first half on nine UVA shots on goal as the Tar Heels raced to a 10-2 lead at intermission. He made another six stops in the third quarter as Carolina carried a 12-4 lead into the fourth quarter en route to the 16-8 win.
