ACC Men’s Lacrosse: Players of the Week Named

Notre Dame’s Matt Landis and Syracuse’s Tim Barber honored

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse’s Tim Barber has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Notre Dame’s Matt Landis is this week’s Defensive Players of the Week.

Barber tied his career high with five points, which included a career-high three goals in Syracuse’s win over No. 17/14 Virginia in both teams’ ACC opener. The senior midfielder scored all three of his goals in the first half while halting Virginia’s 3-0 run late in first quarter with his first tally of the day. His next goal tied the game at five goals apiece before his third goal opened a 7-6 lead and stifled the Cavaliers’ momentum. He also added two assists.

Landis, the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year, played key role on Irish close defense that limited Maryland to four goals in 9-4 Irish win Saturday in the Pacific Coast Shootout. Landis primarily defended Matt Rambo, Maryland’s top returning point-scorer from last season, and held him to one goal and six shots. The senior defenseman also had three ground balls and played key role in forcing Maryland into 21 turnovers and six failed clear attempts. The four goals were the fewest Maryland had scored since John Hopkins topped the Terps, 7-4, in 2013.
