ACC Men’s Lacrosse: Players of the Week Named

Syracuse’s Ben Williams, and Notre Dame’s Sergio Perkovic and Shane Doss honored

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame’s Sergio Perkovic has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate Shane Doss and Syracuse’s Ben Williams are this week’s co-Defensive Players of the Week.

Notre Dame junior midfielder Perkovic contributed four goals as the top-ranked Irish won their opener at the Cobb County Classic versus No. 13 Georgetown, 12-7. He scored Notre Dame’s first goal less than two minutes in and added a second before the first period concluded to give Irish a 4-0 lead. He added a third goal late in third period and completed his scoring with a man-up goal in fourth in the season-opening win against Hoyas.

Doss, the Fighting Irish’s junior goalie, played lights-out early against Georgetown, making six first-period saves to enable Irish to break out to 4-0 advantage after the first quarter. The Glen Ridge, New Jersey, native finished with 14 saves and five groundballs.

Syracuse junior face-off specialist Williams won 17-of-24 face offs and picked up nine ground balls in the Orange’s win against No. 12 Albany. Williams won his first 11 restarts to allow the Orange to get out to a fast lead, which it wouldn’t relinquish. His 11-straight faceoff wins tied the second-longest streak for the junior faceoff specialist’s career, not losing his first attempt until midway through the second quarter.

ACC men’s lacrosse action continues this week with seven games.
