GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The ACC leads all conferences with six teams ranked among the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook Preseason Top 25, including four among the top 10.
Duke sits atop the poll at the No. 1 spot. Defending ACC champion and 2016 NCAA runner-up North Carolina is ranked seventh, following by No. 8 Louisville and No. 10 Virginia. Florida State is next among ACC teams at No. 20, while NC State checks in at No. 23.
ACC teams open regular-season play on Friday, November 11. The first conference games of the 2016-17 season are set for December 28, when Wake Forest travels to Florida State, and Virginia visits Louisville.
The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, will play host to the New York Life ACC Tournament for the first time. The 64th annual event opens with three first-round games on Tuesday, March 7 and culminates with the Saturday night championship game on March 11.
The ACC’s current 15 member schools have captured seven of the last 16 NCAA Championships and 16 overall, while combining for 62 Final Four appearances and a national-best 601 NCAA Tournament wins. ACC teams have combined to win an NCAA-record 36 NCAA Tournament games over the past two seasons, including a 32-8 mark versus teams from outside the conference.
Four of the six active Division I coaches that have been selected for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame will again compete in the ACC this season - Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, Louisville’s Rick Pitino, North Carolina’s Roy Williams and Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim.
